VOTE: Waianae’s Torii Field vs. Oklahoma’s Jelsma Stadium in USA Today Poll

The quarterfinal round of USA Today America’s Best High School Football Stadiums public poll is underway. Waianae’s Raymond Torii Field advanced out of the round of 16 last week with a lopsided win over Diamond Ranch Academy (Utah). Torii Field, the No. 3 seed, is paired with No. 6 Jelsma Stadium (Okla.). One team had a long 10 days off. The other was getting its groove back after losing playoff matches last Monday and Wednesday. Third-ranked Punahou made those 10 days pay off, coming through in the fourth set to overcome No. 7 Kahuku 25-19, 25-19, 19-25, 25-21 on Monday night in the opening round of the New City Nissan/HHSAA Girls Volleyball State Championships. Utah senior defensive end Bradlee Anae, a 2016 Kahuku alumnus, was named both the Pac-12 defensive lineman and defensive player of the week on Monday. Anae, who is 6-foot-3 and 265 pounds and was named to the All-Pac-12 first team as a junior, won his first defensive player of the week award after carving up Arizona State’s offensive line with three sacks and a pass breakup in a 21-3 victory on Saturday night.
