Kamehameha got its revenge and Waiakea is making noise. The Kamehameha Warriors avenged an early loss to Konawaena by winning decisively, 58-45, on Saturday at the ‘Iolani Prep Classic. Coach Pua Straight‘s Warriors moved up a spot to No. 2, switching places with the BIIF powerhouse Wildcats. UPDATE: The game has been made official for 4:30 p.m. Saturday in Las Vegas. St. Thomas Aquinas has accepted an invitation to play against Saint Louis in the GEICO State Champions Bowl Series on Saturday, according to Chris Chun of the Hawaii High School Athletic Association. Brooke Demetre arrived at the ‘Iolani Prep Classic with a well-earned reputation as a superb long-range stroke. The Mater Dei junior left an impression with much more. Demetre closed out the Classic with nine points and eight assists in a 74-69 championship win over St. Mary’s on Saturday. St. Thomas Aquinas won its 11th Florida state championship Saturday. The Raiders (14-0) from Fort Lauderdale rallied to beat Edgewater of Orlando 28-23 at Daytona Beach for the 7A title, according to the Sun-Sentinel in South Florida. Baldwin state champion Waipuilani Estrella-Beauchamp began her senior season with a big win at the 52nd annual Garner Ivey MIT on Maui on Friday night. Estrella-Beauchamp, the reigning queen at 132 pounds, defended her division against her cousin, 127-pound boss Nanea Estrella of Lahainaluna, winning 11-3 by major decision.
