Once again, California Interscholastic Federation powerhouse Mater Dei is in the islands for a summer trip. Mater Dei began play in the ‘Iolani Summer League on Wednesday and will continue to compete. The visitors have split their group into three squads. When Hirata returned to his alma mater, ‘Iolani, this spring, the logical move would be to promote assistant coach Robert Shklov. Dan Hale is the new boys basketball coach at Saint Louis, replacing Sol Batoon, the school’s athletic department announced Monday. Hale has been coaching high school basketball for more than 25 years, including at Punahou from 2004 to 2007.
