Mililani hires basketball, wrestling coaches

Jason Tittle is the new boys basketball coach at Mililani, Trojans athletic director Glenn Nitta said Monday. Tittle, who is a teacher at Mililani Middle School, was Mililani’s junior varsity coach since 2008. He won three Oahu Interscholastic Association JV championships and four OIA Western Division JV titles. He went 69-16 overall, including playoffs. Kalaheo hires Pardini as basketball coach

Rob Pardini is the new boys basketball coach at Kalaheo, Mustangs athletic director Mark Brilhante told Hawaii Prep World on Tuesday afternoon. Pardini is a club coach in Kailua and was a Mustangs assistant two seasons ago under Alika Smith. “He emphasizes the student-athlete and is passionate about basketball,” Brilhante said about Pardini. “He’s a good guy and we believe he will do really well.” Smith left his post as the coach in the offseason after Kalaheo won the Division […]

Youth hoops: Tar Heels win in Las Vegas

The Tar Heels of Honolulu, coached by Kelly Grant, won division championships in 9th and 10th grade over the weekend in Las Vegas. They defeated the Bay Area Knights 46-33 in the 9th grade Level 2 division final. In the 10th grade Level 3 final, the Tar Heels defeated the Colorado Cardinals 54-42. Grant is the head coach for Maryknoll boys basketball.

Maryknoll alumnus Josh Burnett, who graduated in 2014 before playing one year at a prep school in North Carolina, has accepted a full scholarship to play at Kennesaw State University this season. Burnett, a 6-foot-4 shooting guard, was the Honolulu Star-Advertiser state player of the year as a senior, averaging close to 23 points and eight rebounds a game for the Spartans, who advanced to the state semifinals. Smith steps down as Kalaheo basketball coach

After five seasons and state titles in both Division I and Division II, Alika Smith has stepped down as boys basketball coach at Kalaheo. Smith cited philosophical differences with administration at the school in an interview with Paul Honda for a story running in Tuesday’s Honolulu Star-Advertiser. Farrington’s Steven Leopoldo will move over from coaching the varsity girls basketball team to become the head coach of the boys varsity, Governors athletic director Harold Tanaka said Wednesday.
