Damien’s Vendiola sets the pace

By Jerry Campany on September 25, 2013

With the haves playing the have-nots in ILH boys bowling at Hickam Lanes on Wednesday, the drama was reduced to the honor of best invdividual bowler. Each of the top three bowlers in the league upped their averages on Wednesday, with Alika Vendiola of Damien gaining a full point to 199.29 after rolling a 169 followed by a 245. He did not bowl in his team’s first game against Saint Louis. Vendiola, a junior, has bowled 17 games this year […]

By Jerry Campany on September 20, 2013

Pearl City bowler Chelsi Morishige rolled a 255 game at Schofield Lanes on Thursday, just three pins short of the high game for the season by a girl on Oahu. Morishige is still looking up at Danielle August of Mililani, who opened the season with a 258, but Morishige has threatened that mark twice already. Morishige also rolled a 255 in week 3. August was second on the list in Thursday’s action with a 239. Morishige is also second on […]

ILH boys bowling down to 2 unbeatens

By Jerry Campany on September 18, 2013

When the Kamehameha boys showed up to Hickam Lanes on Monday and threatened Hawaii Baptist’s dominance, Golden Eagles anchor Lane Hosaka was having no part of it. Hosaka rolled a 257 game and 643 series to lead all bowlers and defending champion Hawaii Baptist rolled Kamehameha 2,971-2,203 to begin the fourth week of competition on Monday. Kamehameha’s loss leaves HBA and Damien, which beat Punahou 3-0 on Monday, as the lone unbeatens on the boys side. The Golden Eagles and […]

Apana stays ahead of Arquero

By Jerry Campany on September 13, 2013

One wobbly pin is all that separated Moanalua’s Jaren Apana and Castle’s Cody Arquero in the OIA East bowling competition at K-Bay Lanes on Thursday. Na Menehune boys have been a step ahead of the Knights all season, and it was no different on Thursday. Apana rolled a high game of 222 and a 588 series to help Moanalua to a 2,510-2,315 win over Castle. Arquero, who holds the second-highest game in the East with a 257 in the opening […]

OIA bowlers getting serious

By Jerry Campany on September 6, 2013

The first part of the OIA bowling season is usually more about participation than results. Coaches let everyone get a taste of the action before deciding on their first team for the meets that count most. Defending champion Pearl City took it easy at Thursday’s third meet of the season at Schofield Lanes, benching captain Nicholas Azumi, and the Chargers still beat Aiea by more than 100 pins for their third straight win. But Pearl City had to work for […]

By Jerry Campany on August 29, 2013

Kolby Matsushima rolled a 549 series and his teammates were not far behind in helping the Castle boys bowling team to a win over Moanalua in the second OIA East event of the season at K-Bay Lanes. Troy Cacal Jr. of Kalaheo was the outstanding individual bowler […]
