Pearl City sweeps state bowling titles

Pearl City swept the individual and team titles at the HHSAA Bowling State Championships on Friday at Hickam Bowling Center. Chargers senior Nicholas Azumi won the individual boys title, and sophomore Chelsi Morishige took the girls trophy. Azumi’s nine-game pinfall total was 1,905, leading Pearl City’s boys to a team-title-winning total of 8,748. Morishige’s 1,747 total led the Chargers to a team-best 7,790 pins. Hawaii Baptist girls take rolloff

Candace Minami rolled a 571 series with a high game of 214 and the Hawaii Baptist girls bowling team wrapped up the ILH title in a 2-1 playoff win over Sacred Hearts at the Hickam Bowling Center on Thursday. The Lancers won the first game of the three-game series 886-807 but the Eagles came back to win the next two 944-818 and 874-845 to capture the crown. Sacred Hearts forces tie in ILH girls bowling

Kauaollkokalani Arelliano finished with a 594 series as Sacred Hearts beat Hawaii Baptist 2-1 in head-to-head competition as the ILH’s girls bowling teams concluded regular-season competition on Friday. Arelliano, a junior, came up big in the regular-season final, averaging a 198 over the three games despite carrying an average of 155.58. She rolled games of 209, 179 and 206 on Thursday. Hawaii Baptist’s Owen Saito saved his best game for last, putting up a 277 game and 663 series in the final ILH event of the year. Aiea’s Thomas Berger rolled a perfect game in OIA Western Division bowling action on Oct. 10. Berger’s 300 game, plus a 589 series from teammate Shaun Aque, helped Aiea’s boys compile 2,772 total pins on the day, second behind Pearl City’s 3,021.
