You could see it coming. On this day in 1952, Frank Reveira collected three hits and drove in four runs as Saint Louis beat McKinley 19-1 in an ILH baseball game. On this day in 1992, Kalaheo’s Alika Smith expanded his range to 60 feet, 6 inches. Smith, who was deadly from 3-point range as a basketball player, took the mound and beat Mililani 1-0 in the OIA playoffs with five strikeouts on 81 pitches in the complete game. On this day in 2000, Eli McAngus hit an inside-the-park grand slam with two outs in the bottom of the seventh at Ala Wai Field and Kamehameha stunned Iolani 11-6. Wailaua grew baseball stars back in the day, and Toshio Kameda was just the latest. On this day in 1937, Kameda struck out 14 batters as Mid-Pacific beat Roosevelt 13-3. Kameda was the youngest of nine boys from the household. Hawaii legend Ted “Big Train” Kameda grew up to be the best of them, and they all played together during the war. On this day in 1970, Aiea’s Terry Onuma limited Castle to no hits in a 4-0 win. A few weeks later, teammate Gerry Ako did the same. Onuma, who was injured for his junior season of high school ball, struck out 12 batters and walked only two. The victory gave Leilehua sole possession of first place. On this day in 1955, the big stage didn’t faze the tiny Pahala baseball team. Pahala traveled to Honolulu Stadium over Easter break to take on three ILH teams before hitting Maui on the way back for two more games. The Trojans raised more than a few eyebrows in Honolulu, beating Saint Louis 10-1 behind Andres Deperino‘s pitching and the hitting of Felimon Sesson.
