Waiakea alum Kean Wong, who was the Honolulu Star-Advertiser All-State position player of the year in 2012, is an all star for the third time in five years.
An infielder/outfielder for the Durham Bulls in the Tampa Bay Rays’ farm system, Wong was named to the 2018 Triple-A All-Star Game on July 11 in Columbus, Ohio, on Wednesday.
Wong has spent the entire season in Triple-A and entering Wednesday’s games, led the International League with a .319 batting average. Wong, who has played second base, third base and left field at different points of the season, has reached base safely in 13 straight games.
In 229 at-bats, Wong has six homers and 31 RBIs.
Wong made the All-Star game in Single-A in 2014 while playing for Bowling Green and also made the All-Star game in Double-A for Montgomery in 2016.
He was a fourth-round draft pick of the Rays in 2013.
The Triple-A All-Star game will be broadcast on MLB Network on July 11.
