Damien’s Lloyd upsets No. 10 Kekahuna

Damien's Harry Lloyd, pictured losing to Kayson Kekahuna in the Officials tournament 285-pound final in December, defeated Kekahuna 3-2 in the ILH championships semifinals Thursday. Later Thursday, Lloyd will meet Kamehameha's Cody Bollig in the 285 final. Bruce Asato / Honolulu Star-Advertiser.

Damien’s Harry Lloyd, a first-year wrestler, loves the upsets.

For the second time this season, Lloyd came up with a rousing victory over a higher-seeded wrestler. On Thursday, Lloyd topped second-seeded Kayson Kekahuna of Saint Louis 3-2 in the 285-pound class semifinals at the ILH championships at Kamehameha. Kekahuna is No. 10 in Hawaii Prep World’s pound-for-pound rankings.

At the Officials tournament in December, Lloyd knocked off top-seeded Chance Rodrigues of Maui in a semifinal match, but wound up losing to Kekahuna in the final.

With his win over Kekahuna, Lloyd moved on to the final against Kamehameha’s Cody Bollig. That will be held later Thursday.

“He had a target on his back from me because I lost to him before, just like I have a target on my back for other people who I have beaten,” Lloyd said. “It’s going to be a tough match (against Bollig). Maybe I’ll try something different. Maybe I’ll shoot as a big guy.”
