The musical chairs are more like an accordion of late, but Maryknoll has stood firm.

The Spartans arrived at No. 1 in the Star-Advertiser Boys Basketball Top 10 last week, and held on to their spot on Monday. Coaches and media voted Maryknoll (23-4) to the No. 1 position with all 10 first-place ballots. With the girls team on campus a season-long No. 1 in the other poll, Maryknoll has a No. 1 team in the boys and girls basketball rankings for the second week in a row.

Punahou (24-3) remained at No. 2 despite a 63-58 road loss to then-No. 9 ‘Iolani. St. Francis (24-3) moved up to No. 3, switching with Kamehameha. The Saints eked out a key win over Damien in the ILH D-II race. Kamehameha (19-6), playing without some key players, fell to Punahou.

Kahuku (21-3) and Kapolei (15-4) are at No. 5 and No. 6, respectively.

‘Iolani (14-11) leaped two spots higher to No. 7. Lahainaluna (15-6) and Kamehameha-Hawaii (18-3) each dropped one slot.

Kalani (11-4) moved into the rankings for the first time this season at No. 10. The D-II Falcons went 8-2 in the OIA East, outperforming a D-I slate of foes.

This is the first time the Falcons boys have been ranked in the eight-year history of the Honolulu Star-Advertiser boys basketball poll.

Leilehua (three), Campbell (two) and Kalaheo (one) also received votes.
