Punahou Invitational: Day 1

Morning and afternoon results are in from the opening day of the Punahou Invitational at Hemmeter Fieldhouse.

Wednesday’s scores
Corona Del Mar (Calif.) 57, Punahou II 43
John Humphreys and Kevin Kobrine scores 11 points each for Corona Del Mar.
Kaimi Dunaway led the D-II Buffanblu with 11 points. Ty Shishido added eight.

Maryknoll 62, Damien 50
Jordyn Perez scored 19 points as the Spartans outlasted the young Monarchs. Jaylen Cain added 13 points and Nikko Robben added eight off the bench for Maryknoll, ranked No. 2 in the Star-Advertiser Top 10. Kolin Galdiano led the Monarchs with 10 points, including 5-for-5 at the free-throw line. Dimonyai Lacey added 13 points.


St. Francis 69, Mid-Pacific 38
Kameron Ng scored 23 points and Boris Vukovic tallied 10 for the Saints. Manoa Kualii-Moe chipped in nine points. Kamana Lapina paced the Owls with 10 points.

Sequoia (Redwood City, Calif.) 64, Kamehameha-Hawaii 50
Ziggy Lauese, a 6-6 senior, pumped in 19 points to power the visitors. Zach Bene added 10 points. Lio Lauese and Pedram Attari chipped in eight apiece.

Nalu Kahalea, 6-5 senior, led the Warriors with 14 points including two 3-pointers. Payton Grahovac swished four treys for 12 points. KS-Hawaii is No. 9 in the Top 10.

Leigh (Calif.) 71, Kamehameha II 23
Jason Richards had 17 points and Ryan Shenefiel scored 12 for Leigh. Kamahao Arita led the D-II Warriors with six points.


Tesoro (Calif.) 72, Sequim (Wash.) 27
Mahmoud El-Farra led a balanced attack with 14 points as Tesoro turned a five-point lead after one quarter into a 36-20 edge by halftime. Payton Glasser led Seqium with 11 points.

Hawaii Baptist 60, South Anchorage (Alaska) 59
Micah Mitchell’s corner 3 at the buzzer lifted the Eagles to victory. Max Wiemken also scored 19 points for HBA. Liam Lincoln led South Anchorage with 23 points. Cameron Orbase added 10 points.

Punahou 89, Hilo 39
The host Buffanblu roared to a 31-11 lead after one quarter en route to victory. Andrew Kobayashi had 13 points, Tristan Scharfenstein-Montgomery tallied 12, Kaulana Makaula scored 11 and Zayne Chong had 10 for the top-ranked Buffanblu.


Liko Medeiros had 10 points to lead the Vikings.
