Everything is going according to form on the boys side of the Officials Tournament after the first day except in the team standings.
Leilehua still holds a slim lead in the team race, by 2.5 points over Saint Louis and 5.5 over Kamehameha.
The Mules are hanging tough in the precursor to states, where they have not finished above seventh place in the last decade. Last year Leilehua was tenth.
Hunter Nagatani (113), Isaac Stalcup (126), Kaena Desantos (132), Jhael Jose (145), Keanu Punley (170) and Jonah Caminos-Freitas (220) are all alive in the winner’s bracket for Leilehua.
There were two upsets:
>> Castle’s Blake Tadaki upset Kaua Nishigaya of Iolani in the 132 quarters and gets his third ILH opponent tomorrow in Ansen Ursua of Saint Louis.
>> Aomalo Ishikawa of Kamehameha ended the night with another mild upset, pinning No. 2 seed Gerri Co Jenks in 1:24 in a heavyweight clash.
Waiakea’s Joseph Vento kept his story alive into the semifinals when Campbell’s Joshua Paz forfeited. Vento, who took out the No. 2 seed earlier in the day, meets Jude Michael Taiana of Maui in the semis.
