The 2018 Polynesian Bowl has its first quarterback from Hawaii with the announcement tonight that Saint Louis’ Chevan Cordeiro has been invited to the game.
Cordeiro, who is 6 feet and 175 pounds, is currently fourth on Oahu among Division I quarterbacks with 1,303 passing yards with 14 touchdowns and just three interceptions.
Completing 65 percent of his passes, Cordeiro had the game of his life last Saturday against Narbonne (Calif.), throwing for a career-high 393 yards and seven touchdowns in a 56-50 win. Only Tua Tagovailoa, Timmy Chang, Darnell Arceneaux and Jeremy Higgins have thrown for more yards in a Saint Louis uniform.
Cordeiro is in his first year as the full-time starter and has undefeated Saint Louis ranked as the unanimous No. 1 team in the state.
A total of 16 players from Hawaii have been selected to the all-star game scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 20, 2018.
The next announcement will be made at Noon next Thursday here at Hawaii Prep World.
Ranked 4th on Oahu because he only plays half the game. They usually already put up 30 or 40 by half time of the 3rd quarter and they pull him out. Total yards wide maybe fourth but crazy to say he isn’t actually the best qb in the state right now
He’s a great QB who is only scratching the surface of his abilities. Would have been an amazing QB if he was in his third year as a starter but that’s moot now. It will be exciting to watch this young man grow over the next several years. What Chevan and Gabriel are doing this year makes for potentially a great match up in the playoffs. Hope they meet on the field at some point. I can see 20,000 in the stands at the stadium if that happens. Keep winning fellas!
