After beating ‘Iolani in three sets last week to take over sole possession of first place in the ILH, Kamehameha leaped over the Raiders into the No. 1 spot in the latest Honolulu Star-Advertiser Girls Volleyball Top 10 released today.

The Warriors have ripped off three straight wins to move to 4-1 in league play since losing in three sets in their first meeting with ‘Iolani.

The Raiders dropped to No. 2 after losing twice in league play. Punahou, which is No. 3, swept ‘Iolani last Tuesday but then dropped a three-setter to No. 6 Maryknoll.

Kahuku had the biggest fall in the rankings this week, dropping from No. 4 to No. 9 after losing in three sets to Farrington.

No. 4 Moanalua jumped two spots ahead of both Kahuku and No. 5 Kapolei.

The Spartans, No. 7 Le Jardin and No. 8 Hilo all moved up a spot while Hawaii Baptist remained at No. 10.

Not sure how long that will last.
Iolani has 3 injured players, one a starter.

Yeah, no Middle D for the Raiders.
    All 3 players are middles

The Head Coach at Iolani should be suspended for coaching couple of his high school girls during club. According to ILH rules that any Head Coach is not allow to coach his players during club season

I totally agree !!. They should have the Iolani State Championship taken away because of this violation.
I think the ILH and Iolani School should investigate the head coach. From the club videos online and the rosters from mainland tournaments it is obvious that he does and the ILH community has enough evidence to bring this matter forward. Is the ILH guy at HBA in charge of enforcing this?

The ILH schools should petition to have the championship removed and award 2016 Championship to Kamehemeha. This will set a example for all High School coaches who use their high school position to force the kids to play for them at club.

Watch what you all wish for, if they investigate Iolani how do you turn a blind eye to all the “recruiting” at Punahou for all sports, and St Louis for football. Including all the extra benefits and free tuition?

  8. Mahatma Gandhi September 12, 2017 4:12 pm

come on Reason, you telling me the Iolani Reds don’t recruit? yeah right. You telling me Saige is paying full tuition?

First, you should know the rules before you start spouting off.

    The ILH VB Ops states…

    SECTION V – MISCELLANEOUS
    A. SUMMER
    a. School summer team activities must in accordance with the HHSAA calendar. When applicable, no school team practices or tournament play or outside league play also in accordance to HHSAA calendar. Conditioning or weight training is permissible but practicing play patterns or practicing with volleyball equipment shall be considered as violations of this rule.

    b. ILH volleyball coaches (paid or volunteer) are allowed to coach on a bonafide outside league team, provided the team has no more than three (3) athletes from his/her school. Seniors who have completed their ILH eligibility are excluded from the ILH sport participation count.

    c. Summer programs may begin on May 15, but must end by July 31.

So now that you know the rule I think you’d be hard pressed to find a violation, especially when he coaches a 18s team. He could have 3 seniors and 3 juniors from Iolani on that roster and he’d still be legal.

Also, I have to ask how you know he’s forcing kids from his program to play for him? That’s a heck of an assertion.

Finally, don’t you think that other coaches and/or parents would have reported him if he had broken the rules? And if he has (broken the rules) and they’re not (reporting him), I wonder why that is? As Reason asserted previously, watch what you wish for!

An inquiry was started yesterday and this will revert back for five years. Simple review

    good luck

@Reason you telling me Kamehameha doesn’t recruit either! Come on! I know a few girls on varsity that got accepted in their region with bad grades (maybe it must be the last name!) All but 2 players on Punahou’s Varsity roster have been there since elementary school. ALL SCHOOLS RECRUIT! And just because Chris doesn’t coach them they still play together during club season, same thing.
