Celebration of life for Marciel set for July 1

A celebration of life will be held for legendary prep coach Ron Marciel, who died May 27 in Kailua of natural causes at the age of 84.

It will be July 1 at Mystical Rose Chapel at Saint Louis School from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. There wil l be visitation followed by eulogy and mass. A luncheon will follow at the T.C. Ching suite at Mamiya Theater.


Marciel compiled a record of 127-71-8 as head coach of four Hawaii high school varsity football teams: Saint Louis (1965-70 and ‘73-78), Kalani (‘88), Hawaii Prep (‘89-90, 11-6-1 record) and Honokaa (2005-08, 16-17). He was also a successful coach at Los Altos in California, and served as a college assistant at the University of Hawaii under Dave Holmes and Michigan State for Duffy Daugherty.

    I played football under coach Marciel at MTU in 1981 and got to know his recievers coach that year. He was from Hawaii and I can’t remember his name. Is there any way to find out who the person is that coached for Coach Marciel in 2981 at MTU?
