Punahou junior Claire Choi outlasted Maui’s Reese Guzman in a playoff to claim individual medalist honors in the David S. Ishii Foundation/HHSAA Golf State Championships today at Kaanapali Golf Club.

Choi, who started one back of the leaders in a tie for third with OIA champion Malia Nam, carded a 3-over 74 to tie Guzman, who shot a 75, for the 36-hole lead.

Choi, who won her first ILH title at Turtle Bay two weeks ago, parred the first playoff hole to take the crown.

She also helped Punahou overcome a 10-shot deficit to win the girls team title by one stroke over ‘Iolani, which led after the first round.

The Buffanblu have won five straight girls golf state team titles and 10 of the past 11 with ‘Iolani winning the other one in 2012.

Punahou has also won six consecutive individual state titles with Choi joining 2016 winner and Southern Cal freshman Allisen Corpuz, UCLA freshman Mariel Galdiano (2013-15) and current Northwetsern senior Kacie Komoto (2012).

Maryknoll junior Allysha Mae Mateo made one birdie and then 16 straight pars before a double bogey on 18 to finish with the best score of the day — a 1-over 72 — to place third.

Nam fell to fourth place after shooting a 77.
