On Thursday and Friday, Hawaii Prep World will run a series of snippets focusing on eight players we dub as Honolulu Star-Advertiser “Unsung Scrappers.”

One player from each of the Oahu Interscholastic Association’s eight teams involved in this weekend’s Division I quarterfinals were chosen by their head coaches.

FIFTH IN A SERIES

FARRINGTON’S CHRISTIAN ACORDA

>> Position: Cornerback
>> Grade: Senior
>> Height: 5 feet 6
>> Weight: 137 pounds
>> Jersey number: 26

GOVERNORS assistant coach Daniel Sanchez on Christian Acorda:

“Christian has been a two-year starter for us on defense. He has great grades and is one of the captains. The kid shows up to practice every day and works his butt off and never complains. He is just a great kid to have on the team. He’s an undersized player and sometimes opponents underestimate his playing ability. What he lacks in height, he sure makes up for in other ways. He’s a holder on special teams and a backup at a receiver. Luckily, we haven’t had to use him as a receiver yet; we’re all healthy there. But he plays well there in practice. He is a cornerback, but he can also play safety.”
