On Thursday and Friday, Hawaii Prep World will run a series of snippets focusing on eight players we dub as Honolulu Star-Advertiser “Unsung Scrappers.”

One player from each of the Oahu Interscholastic Association’s eight teams involved in this weekend’s Division I quarterfinals were chosen by their head coaches.

FIRST IN A SERIES

AIEA’S ARMAN MOGOTE

>> Position: Middle linebacker
>> Grade: Senior
>> Height: 5 feet 6
>> Weight: 150 pounds
>> Jersey number: 7

NA ALII head coach Wendell Say on Arman Magote:

“Arman is a defensive back by stature and he’s playing middle linebacker. He played DB his first three years since his freshman year, but moved to linebacker because of transfers and injuries. He’s barely 150 pounds, I think. But he does a good job staying in the middle and covering on pass coverages. He also returns (punts and kickoffs), having stepped in for other injured return men. He doesn’t get off the field much. He’s a good student. His younger brother (sophomore Austin Mogote) is on the team and they are two different people. Arman is quiet and observes a lot and doesn’t say much. But he does everything we ask of him. He does a good job in his leadership role, gives us all he can in practice and doesn’t hold back. At his size, he doesn’t have much to hold back. He pushes himself because he has to play so much and he has come a long way.”
