Kaleo Aloha Piceno did about everything to lead his seniors to a win on senior night.
The versatile Piceno accounted for three touchdowns in Friday’s 41-14 win over Castle. He ran for a touchdown, threw for another and caught a scoring pass from fellow quarterback Kona Andres.
“He does it all for us,” said Leilehua coach Nolan Tokuda.
Two of Piceno’s touchdowns came during a 21-0 run in the first half. He hauled in an 80-yard pass from Andres and later threw an 11-yard scoring pass to senior Kawai Phifer. Tokuda credited offensive coordinator Bobby George for working with an athlete who wasn’t exactly sure where he fit in. One of Piceno’s brothers was a receiver and another was a running back.
“Credit goes to Bobby George, our OC who’s able to put him in positions to make plays for us,” Tokuda said. “We play him all over the place and he has the ability to do it. What a blessing to have an athlete like that.”
Piceno rushed for 83 yards and threw for 36 in the homecoming game. When it was finally over, the seniors were honored as they marched down the sidelines with their parents.
“This is a proud community and they support the Leilehua Mules,” Tokuda said. “I’m just honored and blessed to be part of the program, to see the faces and the parents smiling with their kids.”
Andres finished with 228 yards on 13 of 21 passes.
