Today: No. 3 Punahou

Punahou will be without the services of senior outside linebacker Seyddrick Lakalaka for most of the season, Buffanblu head coach Kale Ane said Monday.

Lakalaka, who has a foot injury, was a big part of the team that finished 8-2 and lost 27-23 to Saint Louis for the ILH championship last season.

“Seyddrick will be out for a long period of time, we think,” Ane said. “Looks like the majority of the season, but he may be back toward the end of the season, when all the big games are.

“It’s a bone in his foot. It’s sensitive and weight-bearing and it takes time. He is going back to the doctor to get a full report.”

Lakalaka was a second-team ILH All-Star at linebacker at year ago.

Another Punahou senior, two-way lineman Jack-Eli Tufono, is still recuperating from an ACL injury he suffered in basketball in the winter.

“He may be back by the end of August or early September, which is when we start (the ILH season),” Ane said. “He’s been working hard and progressing really well.”

Injuries suck, hope the young man is back to 100% before the playoffs. Speaking of playoffs I think the ILH should have two entries into the state tournament, yup two! and they should play each other in the first round, winner advances to the semi-finals. BOUNCE! LOL!

@mrwendell… isn’t that what ILH championship game is for? Winner goes to state tourney? So after ILH championship game, the same 2 teams play again the following week for the 1st rd of states?

yeah Alpha, only 1 ILH school in the state football tournament. Make the ILH championship count for something.

The OIA Championship should count for some thing too. I say go back to the prep bowl or just have a 4 team format, ILH/OIA/BIL/MIL

They should go back to 8 teams; 2 ILH teams and 4 OIA..along with the MIl and BIIF…or perhaps a play in game between the 3rd place OIA team and the 2nd ILH team. Then the field would still be at 6
