GPA Football Showcase: Day 1 update

5:45 p.m.
The GPA Football College Showcase is underway.

It’s been packed here at T.C. Ching Field since I got here around 4 p.m. Registration started at 3 p.m. and Rich Miano says there were players here since 11 a.m.

Last year’s Showcase — then known as the Maximum Exposure Camp — drew about 300 players. This year there are 500 and word is they’ve opened it up to 600, all for a chance to show their talents to 80 college football coaches.

Some basic drills and practice work ahead tonight. More of the intensive work is coming Saturday morning, afternoon and night. The fan-friendly 7-on-7s will be on Saturday and Sunday morning.

More later tonight. I’ve already interviewed several players, freshmen to seniors. I’ve also chatted with one former NFL lineman who marveled at the size of this group.

“I’ll coach them up as i see it
Problem is if he group gets too big I can only see so much,” he said.
