Kapolei nestles into top softball spot

For the first time all season, the No. 1 team in the Honolulu Star-Advertiser Top 10 softball poll is not Campbell.

Kapolei beat the Sabers 5-4 in the Oahu Interscholastic Association semifinals and then edged Mililani 6-5 in the championship game.

All three teams – along with the other OIA semifinalist, Pearl City — will be competing in the upcoming state tournament.


The Hurricanes (13-3) received nine of 14 first-place votes. Campbell (14-1) fell to No. 2 and still got three first-place votes.

ILH regular-season champion Kamehameha (11-2-1) dropped a spot to No. 3, and the Trojans (11-4) moved down one place to No. 4.


The softball Top 10 follows. First-place votes in parentheses, followed by points and last week’s ranking.

No longer in Top 10: Kaiser (No. 5).

    Maui High is the MIL champion but Lahainaluna get’s ranked . Maui High defeated Lahainaluna
    3 out 4 times they played.
