The championship game of the ‘Iolani Classic is finally upon us. Two potent teams. The house is nearly packed. Maybe 15 or so seats left.
I’ll update as time permits. The game story goes in the print edition tomorrow and I’ve got my hands busy with stats, running play by play notebook and camera. Fun stuff, just don’t have enough hands to do consistent live blog. But I’ll update the score.
FIRST QUARTER
LL 4, SC 0, 6:04. LL called time out after getting trapped in the backcourt. Two offensive fouls already on SC. They’ve met their physical match.
Quarter ends with SC up 14-10.
SECOND QUARTER
Lakers call time out with 5:37 left. It’s a major battle at rim level between the bigs. Very old-school feel to this one. Still 16-10, LL.
Isaiah Coleman hits a 3 from the top, then scrambles after his own loose ball and drains an elbow J as La Lumiere goes up 21-10. Time out, Sierra Canyon, 4:36.
Deveral Ramsey comes up big for the cold-shooting Trailblazers, hitting a 3 and a couple of twos as they pull within 21-17.
Ira Lee having a huge game defensively for Sierra Canyon. He finished the half with eight boards and a block. However, La Lumiere leads 25-20 at the break. James Banks, the Lakers’ 6-10 center, also playing well with two blocks and four points.
Jeremiah Tilmon, LL’s 6-11 center, had four points and six boards.
THIRD QUARTER
Ramsey hits his first two shots of the second half and the Trailblazers pull within 25-22, but there’s no other scoring punch. The Lakers open the lead back to 38-26 and the quarter ends with LL up 39-32.
FOURTH QUARTER
Ramsey rains in a corner 3 to bring the Blazers within 41-35. Time out LL, 6:03.
Spectacular steal and save as the ball heads out by Ramsey, and Cody Riley has the tip-in on the miss by Remy Martin. 41-39.
Lee with the huge block, Ramsey rebounds and goes all the way to give SC the lead 44-42 with 4:07 left.
Bowen with a clutch, hanging bank shot to tie it. 44-44.
LL leaves Ramsey WIDE OPEN. Corner 3. Splash. 47-44.
SC spreads the court, but Ramsey can’t resist. He misses a tough shot in the lane. Lee commits his fifth foul.
Bowen at the line 1-and-1, misses, 2:15.
Adam Seiko shooting two for SC. Misses and makes. 48-44, 2:01.
Seiko at the line, hits both, 50-44.
Bowen at the line for two shots. Hits the first. And the second. 50-46, 1:06. Time out, LL.
Martin hits two FTs, 52-46
Terrance McBride hits one of two, 53-46, :30.
Tilmon with a dunk, time out LL, :22.4. 53-48. Last TO for LL.
POST-GAME: Ramsey finished with 25 points, nearly half of his team’s total. Riley, who finished with 12 points, was named the tournament’s most valuable player. Bowen (17 points) was named most outstanding player.
