UPDATE: #7 Kalaheo 69, Radford 47, F

It’s 29-21 at the half with the home team, Kalaheo ahead. I caught what I coukd while I wrote a story for print on the previous game between Saint Louis and Campbell.

I’ve been looking forward to seeing Kalaheo. Are they anywhere near what they were last year when Alika Smith led them to the state title?

The answer is sorta. They are young. They’ve got veteran leadership from Kekai Smith. But they will need time to really develop into a state-title contender,
And time is what they have.

Radford is quick and scrappy. But it’s been a few years since they had some flat-out scorers. Interim coach David Lane is doing a nice job of keeping the Rams close. They unveiled a three-quarter press that slowed Kalaheo down during the second quarter.

THIRD QUARTER
Rams have cut the lead to 31-29 midway through the third. Scrappy and parient. Ace Faumui hitting the boards and making unselfish plays with the ball. One was a save on a ball going out of bounds that led to a layup.

13-1 run by the Mustangs late in the quarter thanks to Radfird turnovers against the 2-2-1 press. Not a lot of tight pressure and trapping. Just a lot of impatience by the Rams.

Treys by Captain Whitlock and Alex Layi boosted the run.

Kalaheo leads 44-31 entering the fourth.

FOURTH QUARTER
Whitlock swishes another wing 3 and it’s now 47-31.

Kalaheo has starters back in with 3 minutes left and a 20-point lead. There’s risk in that injury-wise.
