On the North Shore, it was a busy morning for 11 student-athletes penning their signatures to letters of intent. At Kahuku, two Red Raiders — safety Tigi Hill and linebacker Ben Mamea — signed with Hawaii.
Hill turned down offers from Oregon State, Portland State and Arizona Western. His signing with UH, as well as the offers from OSU and PSU, are contingent on his academic qualification, according to Kahuku coach Reggie Torres.
The same is true of Mamea, who is a bit closer to qualification.
Offensive lineman Christopher Thee signed with Weber State and running back Galeai “Mua” Malufau inked with Dixie State.
Seven other players signed with Division II or junior colleges. Quarterback Evan Moe has an offer from Southern Virginia, a D-II school, as does cornerback Trayson Medeiros. Among those planning to play at the JC level next season are offensive lineman Steven Siilata and Jamal Napeahi. Both are heading to Santa Rosa JC.
Others, like wide receiver Punga Vea, have interest from D-I schools, but haven’t made any decisions yet. Tight end Shairone Thompson plans to go on a church mission before starting college. Lineman K.J. Uluave, who plans to go on a mission after one year of college, has interest fro UH, Boise, BYU and Weber State.
Linebacker T.J. Tito is an NCAA qualifier. He has interest from Dixie State, Eastern Arizona and Santa Rosa JC..
