It is the first and it probably won’t be the last.

Oregon State made a football scholarship offer on Wednesday night to Kapolei freshman Rocky Savea. The 6-foot-2, 210-pound Savea is an outside linebacker who transferred during the winter from Campbell with older brother Ezra, a quarterback who started several games for the Sabers. Rocky Savea played on the junior varsity squad for the Sabers.

Beavers assistant coach Chad Kauhaahaa, a former Baldwin head coach, made the offer.

“He is the first freshman to receive an offer that I have ever coached,” Kapolei coach Darren Hernandez texted this morning. “He’s a super hard worker and has the potential to be a great one. He can rush and cover equally well at inside or outside linebacker. Our other linebackers are getting some attention, too. No offers yet, but they are going to be a solid group, so it’s fun.”

Savea’s cousin, Kapolei junior offensive lineman Toleafoa Sean Auwae, who has 13 offers of his own, celebrated the news on Twitter.
