‘Iolani did not appeal for an exemption to a football classification rule at the ILH’s monthly meeting, athletic director Carl Schroers said Monday.
By rule, the Raiders — who have won eight state Division II titles — will be moving up to Division I next year, unless they file an appeal.
According to ILH assistant athletic director Georges Gilbert, no motion was made on the subject at the Monday meeting.
Gilbert said ILH schedules for the fall season will be finalized at the end of June, and that in May, the ILH members will officially declare which division they will be playing in in each sport for the upcoming school year.
Unless ‘Iolani appeals, the Raiders can expect to be scheduled for Division I football, which means they would not be playing against ILH Division II teams — Damien, Pac-Five and St. Francis — in the regular season, and would likely play Saint Louis, Kamehameha and Punahou twice.
Schroers and ‘Iolani football coach Wendell Look said last week that the school hadn’t decided if it would appeal or not and that the school administration would make the final decision.
Late Monday afternoon, the Star-Advertiser sent an email to ‘Iolani head of school Timothy Cottrell asking for for comment and is waiting to hear back.
