Mililani defensive tackle Rex Manu is the latest big prospect from Hawaii to commit to Oregon.
Manu joins Punahou’s Canton Kaumatule and Kamehameha’s Dylan Kane as Hawaii seniors who have committed to the school.
Manu had previously committed to Stanford and visited Oregon during its win over Michigan State.

Manu was the anchor of the Trojans defense for the past two seasons. He was a Star-Advertiser All-State first team selection as a junior and it’s highly likely that he’ll make it again this season. He is also a candidate for defensive player of the year honors.
Manu was also recently named the OIA Blue’s defensive player of the year and a first-team defensive lineman for the Trojans, who finished off a 13-0 season by beating Punahou in 53-45 in the state Division I title game. It was Mililani’s first football state championship.
In goal-line and other short-yardage situations, Trojans coach Rod York — an Oregon Ducks fan — used the versatile Manu as an offensive lineman. If short yardage turned into long yardage, Manu barreling down the field was not a pretty sight for opponents.
Stayed in Hawaii probably could have started. Oregon, redshirt or bench warmer.
…long term development and growth…play at a higher level, learn…makes a player much better. We will see how this all plays out. It’s a bit premature to make a prediction at this point. I’ll trust the coaches’ judgement in this matter. …just my 2 cents.
