1. McKenzie Milton, Mililani >> Pupule rating: 99
5-11, 150, Jr.

∆∆ vs Kailua Aug 23 13-15-0-270, 2 TD (78,35) rush 2-22, TD (20)

∆∆ Total 136-198-4-1,924, 19 TD; 70.3%; 9.7 YPA; 274.9 YPG; 177.94 QBR
rush 52-639, 10 TD; 12.3 YPC; 91.3 YPG
Extra point: Another quality performance by Milton directing traffic for the most explosive offense in the OIA. He threw a pick and was limited to just 23 yards on the ground, but in the 41 plays he either threw or ran with the ball, Milton gained 298 yards. There are just a handful (or so) QBs in the state who can do this on a regular basis.

2. (tie) Tua Tagovailoa, Saint Louis >> Pupule rating: 97
6-0, 190, So.
∆∆ vs #2 Mililani Aug 16 19-28-0-188, 5 TD (6,12,7,3,7) rush 14-73

∆∆ vs St Francis (Aloha) Sept 27 9-10-0-172, 3 TD (26,46,21) rush 1-10

∆∆ Total 123-174-2-2,042, 29 TD; 70.7%; 11.7 YPA; 255.3 YPG; 221.97 QBR
rush 61-465, 3 TD; 7.6 YPC; 58.1 YPG
Extra point: He saw slightly extended action in a come-from-behind win over Damien. Extended as in he played the first half (41 points by the Crusaders) and part of the third quarter.

2. (tie) Ephraim Tuliloa, Punahou >> Pupule rating: 97
6-2, 205, Jr.
∆∆ vs #7 Saint Louis (Aloha) Aug 29 22-35-0-441, 6 TD (45,43,80,11,23,44) rush 0-0

∆∆ Total 55-77-1-1,153, 12 TD; 71.4%; 15 YPA; 288.3 YPG; 246.04 QBR
rush 5-29, TD
Extra point: He played little more than one quarter and threw his first interception of the season, but Tuliloa was in big-play mode with WR Kanawai Noa. Tuliloa’s passer rating actually improved by nearly 2 points — an almost impossible increase at this insanely high level.

4. Kalanimoku Pauole, Leilehua >> Pupule rating: 94
5-9, 170, Sr.
∆∆ vs Kailua Aug 16 10-17-1-326, 3 TD (66,41,74), 2-pt pass rush 2-16
∆∆ vs McKinley Aug 22 18-22-1-200, 4 TD (10,11,15,30) rush 0-0

∆∆ @ #8 Kahuku Sept 27 22-40-1-201, TD (16) rush 15-0
∆∆ vs #10 Kaiser Oct 3 11-21-0-192, 4 TD (18,11,4,36) rush 7-39
∆∆ Total 111-173-7-1,738, 25 TD; 64.2%; 10 YPA; 248.3 YPG; 188.15 QBR
rush 11-68
Extra point: He barely hit 50 percent of his passes, but Pauole has been opportunistic and efficient (no picks) in his last two games. He also ran for a season-high 39 yards against Kaiser.

5. Kawika Keama-Jacobe, Moanalua >> Pupule rating: 93
5-10, 171, Sr.
∆∆ @ #8 Waianae Aug 15 14-26-1-191, 2 TD (14,28) rush 15-(-12)
∆∆ @ #7 Campbell Aug 22 14-26-1-126, TD (14) rush 7-35
∆∆ vs #5 Farrington Aug 29 28-51-2-574, 3 TD (52,40,30) rush 8-0
∆∆ vs Kapolei Sept 5 12-19-1-146 rush 7-(-16)

∆∆ @ Kailua Sept 27 26-49-2-298, 4 TD (8,17,6,13), 2-pt pass rush 15-98, TD (1)
∆∆ @ #2 Mililani Oct 4 22-40-5-284, 4 TD (5,55,20,15) rush 17-15
∆∆ Total 137-243-13-1,954, 16 TD; 56.4%; 8 YPA; 279.1 YPG; 134.95 QBR
three 2-pt conversions by pass
rush 79-164, 3 TD
Extra point: In general, most four-wide offenses are not effective when A) the QB completes less than 60 percent of passes, and/or B) his yards-per-attempt drops below 7 yards per. It was especially true during the June Jones era at UH, but at the prep level, offenses can get by with YPAs of 6 or even 5 — particularly when there is no viable running game as an alternative. After all, if you can get 5 yards per play (passing the ball), it would be a challenge for many teams to get that kind of production on the ground. The caveat to all this, of course, is turnovers. If any offense ran the ball 243 times and fumbled the ball away on 13 of those snaps, it would be hard to tame. All kinds of pressure is loaded on to the defense. But this is who Na Menehune are, and even with all the ups (16 TD passes) and downs, there really isn’t another team in the OIA that really wants to face this offense. Well, maybe Mililani would be the exception.

6. (tie) Kainoa Ferreira, Pac-Five >> Pupule rating: 90
5-11, 150, So.

∆∆ vs ‘Iolani (Aloha) Sept 20 21-38-1-291, 2 TD (27,79) rush 3-(-8)
∆∆ vs #5 Kamehameha (Aloha) Sept 27 13-38-3-229, 4 TD (50,5,84,12) rush ?
∆∆ vs #1 Punahou (Aloha) Oct 3 DNP
∆∆ Total 120-242-7-1,619, 18 TD; 49.6%; 6.7 YPA; 323.8 YPG; 124.54 QBR
rush 8-(-30)
Extra point: Didn’t play against top-ranked Punahou and its dominant defensive unit.

6. (tie) Makoa Filikitonga-Lukea, Lahainaluna >> Pupule rating: 90

∆∆ @ Kapaa (Vidinha) Aug 16 5-11-0-56, TD (29) rush 19-114, 2 TD (6,1)

∆∆ @ King Kekaulike Oct 3 8-11-1-98, 3 TD (10,7,14) rush 0-0
∆∆ Total 39-73-1-455, 10 TD; 53.4%; 6.2 YPA; 65 YPG; 148.25 QBR
rush 47-362, 7 TD; 7.7 YPC; 51.7 YPG
Extra point: Eight pass attempts, three TDs. This is starting to become a pattern. The Lunas win again, a 42-3 win at King Kekaulike.

8. (tie) Austin Jim On, ‘Iolani  >> Pupule rating: 89
5-9, 152, Sr.
∆∆ vs Mino Jiyu (Japan) Aug 16 9-12-0-89, TD (20) rush 0-0

∆∆ vs #8 Saint Louis Sept 13 16-26-0-146, TD (15) rush 5-13

∆∆ Total 88-154-5-1,072, 9 TD; 57.1%; 7 YPA; 178.7 YPG; 128.41 QBR
rush 14-12
Extra point: True, Kamehameha’s pass rush and secondary were very hard on Jim On. But he hung in there and kept hope alive for the Raiders until the second half.

8. (tie) Ryder Kuhns, Saint Louis >> Pupule rating: 89
6-1, 225, Sr.
∆∆ @ #2 Mililani Aug 16 12-22-2-160, TD (17) rush 4-(-4)
∆∆ vs St. John Bosco (Calif) Aug 22 9-19-0-50 rush 0-0
∆∆ vs #1 Punahou (Aloha) Aug 29 0-1-0 rush 0-0
∆∆ vs Pac-Five (Aloha) Sept 5 4-5-0-60, TD (20) rush 0-0
∆∆ @ ‘Iolani Sept 13 10-10-0-91 rush 0-0
∆∆ vs #4 Kamehameha (Aloha) Sept 20 DNP
∆∆ vs St Francis (Aloha) Sept 27 8-11-1-182, TD (51) rush 1-(-12)

∆∆ Total 53-78-4-609, 3 TD; 64.7%; 7.8 YPA; 135.97 QBR
rush 7-(-33)
Extra point: There’s no question, Kuhns has a better grasp of the new offense: 31-for-36 in his last four games with two TDs and two picks.

8. (tie) Fatu Sua-Godinet, Kamehameha >> Pupule rating: 89
5-10, 160, Sr.
∆∆ @ Del Oro (Calif.) Aug 29 7-20-2-66, TD rush 14-69, TD

∆∆ vs Damien Sept 11 13-20-0-181, TD (17) rush 9-26
∆∆ vs #8 Saint Louis (Aloha) Sept 20 14-30-2-264, 2 TD (21,4) rush 18-121, 2 TD (12,14)
∆∆ vs Pac-Five (Aloha) Sept 27 9-14-1-152, 3 TD (19,40,7) rush ?
∆∆ vs ‘Iolani Oct 3 17-31-0-221, 2 TD (25,30) rush 14-176, TD (59)
∆∆ Total 65-121-5-966, 9 TD; 53.7%; 8 YPA; 161 YPG; 137.06
rush 63-464, 6 TD; 7.4 YPC; 77.3 YPG
Extra point: There are very few QBs statewide capable of passing for 200 yards and running for 100 more. With a solid running game led by Jordan Baduyan and a consistent receiving corps, the Warriors offense is peaking at the right time.

11. (tie) Kalawai‘a Judd, Kaiser >> Pupule rating: 88
Sr.
∆∆ vs Aiea Aug 15 16-30-0-160, 2 TD (20,18) rush 10-86

rush 84-423, TD; 5 YPC; 60.4 YPG
Extra point: I don’t recall any QB running the ball 26 times (for 125 yards) this season. But those carries, plus 26 pass attempts, had Judd quite busy against the Mules and he’s doing pretty amazing work for a converted wide receiver.

11. (tie) Kale Kanehailua, Nanakuli >> Pupule rating: 88
5-10, 160, Sr.
∆∆ vs Kalaheo Aug 16 DNP?

rush 18-10
Extra point: The Govs have a bye this week, giving Liana and his offense more time to build on what was a strong first-half passing performance against Mililani.

6-3, 190, So.

Note: Committed to Utah as TE
Extra point: Breakout game came in the nick of time for the Red Raiders, who installed a new offense late in the process — after hiring a new coach after spring football. Matagi-Wily’s ups and downs were expected, but the one constant was his yards per attempt. It was almost 10 yards per throw before the Waianae game, and now he’s right at that robust number.

SUMMARY
Between Milton, Tagovailoa and Tuliloa, the only difference is that Milton has faced a tougher schedule so far. If Tagovailoa and Tuliloa continue to put up these kinds of numbers against Top 10 (or Top 5) competition, their ratings will follow. Another signal-caller having a standout season is Pearl City’s Jordan Taamu, with 12 TDs and only one INT. Gauging D-II and D-I performances is tricky, though.
