Some extras on this morning’s feature story about Maryknoll ace pitcher Shearyna Labasan.

• She’s not thinking solely of Oregon State. When I asked what her dream school is, she mentioned only Oregon State. We agreed it was an interesting school, especially with a lot of Hawaii student-athletes there.

But her mom Sheary said this morning that Shearyna was thinking about this summer. That’s when she’ll be playing with a travel team in Corvallis, playing on Oregon State’s field. A trip to Oklahoma will follow that.

Mom says Shearyna’s dream school is actually the University of Hawaii. As of now, there are no scholarship offers, though HPU has offered a financial-aid package. Mom says Shearyna is keeping all options open.

• Mom’s name is Sheary, which is where Shearyna got her name. It was misspelled in the feature.

• Dad talked about a men’s fast-pitch league in Kaneohe to me, but I misinterpreted and thought he meant he plays in it. Sheary noted that Vince doesn’t play softball.
