A defensive struggle with a ton of blocks by the Raiders – particularly Kamu Borden, their big center.

The defensive battle continues, though the Raiders are picking up momentum. Zach Buscher had a block in the corner on Kamehameha gunner Noa Kinimaka, but had his own drive to the basket stopped by a mid-air, 180-degree kick by a Kamehameha defender who got his foot on the ball. That stopped Buscher from getting a good shot before the buzzer.

This has turned out to be a typical ILH grind of a game, bodies flying everywhere.

Strong performance defensively by the Raiders, and Ikaika Phillip led with 13 points. Robbie Mann and Zach Buscher scored 10 each. Noa Kinimaka and Jaycob Smith had nine points apiece.

The Raiders trailed for most of the first quarter, but surged ahead in the second thanks to a barrage of threes. Sophomore Brooke Maeda hit two treys and scored nine points in the second stanza.

In all, ‘Iolani has made seven 3-point shots (64 percent).

Kamehameha got a strong opening quarter from Alohi Robins-Hardy, who scored all 12 of her first-half points before the second quarter. One play stood out, a coast-to-coast bucket that was unstoppable. At 6-foot-1, she is virtually unstoppable.

‘Iolani had one shot in the final seconds, but Brooke Maeda was double-teamed as she attempted a 40-foot runner at the buzzer that missed.
