Moanalua’s season ended with a 54-17 loss to Leilehua on Friday night, also capping a record-breaking senior season for quarterback Micah Kaneshiro.
Kaneshiro completed 28 of 46 passes for 295 yards and two touchdowns in his final game for Na Menehune.
Pressed into duty early in his junior year, the 5-foot-7, 170-pounder finished his senior year with 2,719 yards and 25 touchdowns against six interceptions.
“I just told him I appreciate him and how much he’s grown so much from JV to now,” Moanalua coach Arnold Martinez said after exchanging handshakes and hugs with many of the players following the season finale.
“We put a lot on him because we knew what he could do and the style of play we wanted to run. He slung it this year and he got it done.”
Throwing to a talented receiving corps led by seniors Chad Aragon and Donald Lambert and junior Jason Sharsh, Kaneshiro averaged just over 302 yards per game this season, up from 151 last year.
He set a school record with 469 yards in a loss to Farrington on Sept. 20 and posted five of the top seven passing performances in the program’s history this season alone.
Aragon caught nine passes for 133 yards and two touchdowns on Friday and finished the season with a team-high 65 receptions for 813 yards and nine scores.
Sharsh ended the season with 61 grabs for 889 yards and six touchdowns while Lambert had 51 catches for 660 yards and eight TDs.
