With Oahu’s cross country season wrapping up, ‘Iolani sophomore Amanda Beaman is breaking away.
Beaman ran Punahou’s 3-mile course in 19 minutes, 14.62 seconds for her second win of the season on Saturday.
The ILH had five different winners in five races this season before Beaman broke through with a win at Kapolei two weeks ago and followed it up with yesterday’s result. Previous winners in the ILH:
• Week 1, Kapolei: Kai Hoshijo, Kamehameha
• Week 2, Kaiser: Jennifer Borzilleri, Island Pacific
• Week 3, Kamehameha: Kailey Totherow, Punahou
• Week 4, Kualoa: Teri Brady, Punahou
• Week 5, Kapolei: Amanda Beaman, Iolani
• Week 7, Punahou: Amanda Beaman, Iolani
Beaman beat Punahou’s Noe Obemeyer by 18 seconds, while fellow Buffanblu sophomore Kailey Totherow finished third for the second time this season.
Lina Schell of Kaiser was the first OIA girl to finish, placing fifth ahead of teammates Erika Schell and Alea Amano.
Davis Kaahanui of Kamehameha continued his dominance of the boys division, winning his fourth straight race and beating a potential state rival in the process.
Kaahanui covered the three miles in 16:06.78 to beat Punahou’s Jacques Hebert by five seconds and OIA East champ Makai Clemons of Kalaheo by 24 seconds. It was the third time Clemons and Kaahanui have faced off this year, and the defending state champ has won all three by narrow margins.
The ILH had seven of the top 10 finishers in the race.
The ILH championships are next Saturday at Mid-Pacific with the state championships to follow on Kauai. The OIA championships are Saturday at Central Oahu Regional Park.
Vanessa Roybal, who has not lost a race all season, captured the OIA junior varsity championship on Saturday with a time of 19:31.97 to beat Trina Chun of Kalani. Mililani won the team title easily over Radford.
Toshiro Kosins of Kalani won the boys race in 16:55 to beat Radford’s Owen Woelper at Central Oahu Regional Park. The Rams took the team title.
