One wobbly pin is all that separated Moanalua’s Jaren Apana and Castle’s Cody Arquero in the OIA East bowling competition at K-Bay Lanes on Thursday.
Na Menehune boys have been a step ahead of the Knights all season, and it was no different on Thursday.
Apana rolled a high game of 222 and a 588 series to help Moanalua to a 2,510-2,315 win over Castle. Arquero, who holds the second-highest game in the East with a 257 in the opening week, rolled a 220 and 587 on Thursday to push Apana.
Keenan Nakagawa of Kalani was actually closer to Apana with a 221 game, but he only managed a 569 series.
Pearl City’s boys continued their dominance in the West, dropping 3,211 pins to win for the fourth straight week. Campbell was second with 2,862.
Keenan Kihara carried the load for the Chargers, who seem to have a different high scorer every week. Kihara tied with Kapolei’s Matthew Perry for the second-highest game with a 258 and trailed Perry for high series with a 706 to the Hurricane’s 721.
Leilehua’s Austin Finster had the high game for the second week in a row with a 269, but he could only put together a 636 series. Finster rolled a 290 last week.
Morishige seperating herself from pack
Pearl City’s Chelsi Morishige is taking control of the OIA West, leading all bowlers with a 235 game and 632 series on Thursday.
The Chargers won the team competition 2,723-2,521 over Mililani mostly because the Chargers were stronger at the top. Danielle August of Mililani had her lowest series of the season with a 546 and Kacey Brighter led the Trojans with a 208 game.
Moanalua’s girls kept their grips on the weaker East, knocking down 2,262 pins to beat Castle’s 1,997.
Na Menehune were led by Hilary Martin’s 195 game and 506 series, but Jennifer Lee of the Knights had her beat with a 211 game and Haunani Inouye of Kalani had the high series with a 522.

I don’t understand why you keep saying wins. When the format does not include wins, it is total pin fall. So there are no wins or losses in OIA competition. please make sure you understand the format that the bowlers are competing if you insist on writing about it.
