At Nanakuli, softball will return on Mar. 22, according to Athletic Director Andrew Moody.
“Based on the late start, we want to get in as many games as we can, but taking into consideration the time frame we need to get back into condition,” said Moody, who is also the OIA softball coordinator. “With those parameters, we’ll be lucky to get in a full regular season.”
Scrimmages and preseason games will vary, if there are any.
“That would probably fall under each school’s situation with some schools starting earlier than others. The conditioning requirements will be met earlier for some schools,” Moody noted.
Nanakuli, with a high school enrollment of less than 700, has been highly competitive in Division II. There have also been lean years with low roster numbers.
“I have no idea at this point what our numbers are going to be like,” Moody said. “Throwing it out there and hoping that we have enough players to field a team. I know there’s interest, but because we’re a small school, I don’t know. It’s a matter of giving the parents and kids the opportunity.”
