ON THIS DATE IN 1970: Damien needs team effort to tie Iolani

Even in a tie game, sometimes there is a winner and a loser.

On this date in 1970, Damien scored with 45 seconds left and converted the extra points to deny Iolani its first win with a 22-22 deadlock. Damien was denied its second victory.

The Monarchs trailed 22-16 when Roger Kurt hit Tony Narvaes for a 23-yard touchdown.


Despite the heroics, Anthony Chun took Kurt’s place for the conversion and completed a clutch pass to Mel de Laura to earn the tie.
