ON THIS DATE IN 2001: Kahuku completes unblemished regular season

On this date in 2001, Mulivai Pula opened the second half with an 80-yard touchdown run and No. 1 Kahuku beat Waianae 21-6 to complete an unbeaten regular season.

The Red Raiders, who were ranked No. 18 in the nation, kept the game-plan simple in the driving rain. Pula finished with 111 yards on nine carries. It was Kahuku’s lowest point total of the season.

Kahuku went on to share the OIA title with Kailua and won the state championship with a 21-14 win over Saint Louis.


Siuaki Livai‘s crew finished the season 14-0 and grew its winning streak to 23 in a row. Kahuku finished the year ranked No. 13 by StudentSports.com.
