Kolten Wong was destined to be a major-league baseball player, but he never let it stop him from giving his all on the football field.
On this date in 2006, Wong had 44 carries and a career-high 260 yards as Kamehameha-Hawaii beat Keaau 34-20 for the Warriors’ first victory of the young season.
Perhaps even more impressive than his totals, Wong carried the ball 12 straight times while his team nursed a 7-point lead in the fourth quarter. He picked up three crucial first downs on the drive and Nick Miyasato closed it out with a touchdown from a yard out.
Kamehameha-Hawaii ended up making the state tournament, but lost a home game in the first round 27-12 to Waipahu. Wong was held to 38 yards on 13 carries in that game and still holds his school’s career state tournament records in carries (41) and yards (115).
