The seventh football scholarship offer is in for Saint Louis right tackle La‘akea Kapoi.

San Jose State offered the 6-foot-4, 295-pound junior on Thursday. The Spartans join a list that includes Hawaii, Syracuse, UNLV, Arizona State, Michigan and Indiana.

“I talked with Coach Josh (Oglesby). I don’t know too much about San Jose State, but I tend to learn more about each school as the process goes on,” Kapoi said on Thursday.

Indiana offered earlier in the week as the dead period for direct contact with underclassmen ended on Tuesday.

“I’m blessed and grateful for the opportunities,” he said. “Senior year, I’ll be breaking it down to the top five or top three. I still have time to see how I’m different from other people in my class.”

Kapoi is grinding through the process of off-campus training and classes. With a 3.5 grade-point average, Kapoi usually gets his homework done after online learning is done at 2:30 p.m. He lost 10 pounds recently, and La‘akea Kapoi intends to keep those L-bees off.

Whether there is football in Hawaii in early 2021 or not, he has hopes to travel in the summer.

“If this pandemic clears up, I’ll definitely go to some camps,” Kapoi said. “I was supposed to go to the Wisconsin camp before this pandemic started.”
