APRIL 3, 2013: Jaci Young beats Kama Dung in battle of elites

On this date in 2013, The Punahou softball team went to the small ball to beat Kama Dung and Kamehameha.

Heaven Wong and Sara Sumida reached on infield singles and Thalen Masada reached on an error before Kylie Popovitch squeezed in the go-ahead run in the fifth. Jaci Young made the lead hold up with a complete game from the circle.

It was the second time that season elite pitchers Jaci Young of Punahou and Kamehameha’s Kamalani Dung opposed each other. Dung won the first matchup with a no-hitter and Young atoned for the loss on this date in 2013. Dung pitched Kamehameha to the ILH title but Young’s Buffanblu took the title with a 2-0 victory over Dung and the Warriors.

Kamehameha went on to win the ILH, but Punahou took the state title with a 2-0 win over the Buffanblu in the state final.
