Half of the teams shuffled to a new spot and King Kekaulike replaced Lahainaluna at No. 10 in the latest Star-Advertiser Girls Basketball Top 10.
Waiakea, which celebrated coach Alika Smith’s 44th birthday over the weekend, rose to No. 3. That’s the highest position in the coaches and media poll so far this season. The Warriors (10-1, 4-0 BIIF) will host Keaau on Saturday.
‘Iolani collected all 10 first-place votes to remain at No. 1. Konawaena (13-3, 4-0 BIIF) also garnered every second-place vote and is at No. 2 for a third week in a row.
Maryknoll (10-4, 2-3 ILH) vaulted past Punahou (11-4, 2-3 ILH) to No. 4. It’s the Spartans’ best position since opening the season fourth in the Top 10.
Maryknoll’s only game last week was a 45-42 win over Kamehameha, which dropped the Warriors three spots to No. 6. Kamehameha (10-7, 1-4 ILH) will host Punahou on Tuesday, then will play at Maryknoll on Thursday and ‘Iolani on Saturday.
Maui (8-3, 4-1 MIL) moved up a notch to No. 9 after a 48-37 win at Baldwin. The Sabers are one of only seven teams statewide that have at least three wins over Top 10 teams.
King Kekaulike (13-1, 6-1 MIL) returned to the Top 10 despite having a bye week. Na Alii will host Lahainaluna on Wednesday and plays at Maui on Saturday. King Kekaulike ended Lahainaluna’s 164-game MIL win streak on Dec. 17.
Lahainaluna (five), Mid-Pacific (two) and Seabury Hall (two) also received votes.
