Mater Dei’s win over St. Frances Academy over the weekend gave Saint Louis a boost in one of two national polls.
The Crusaders remained at No. 7 in the MaxPreps Xcellent 25 with St. Frances falling from No. 2 to No. 5 after losing to No. 1 Mater Dei 34-18, but staying ahead of Saint Louis.
In the USA Today Super 25, however, St. Frances fell below Saint Louis to No. 9. With previous-No. 5 Marietta (Ga.) losing to Grayson (Ga.) 28-14, the Crusaders move up two spots to No. 6 in rankings released today.
Saint Louis, the unanimous No. 1 team in Hawaii, ran its winning streak to 31 with a 28-0 victory over Kahuku on Saturday that was called at halftime because the lights went out at Aloha Stadium.
Saint Louis will return to the stadium on Friday night to play ILH rival Punahou. Both teams are undefeated in league play at 4-0 with the Buffanblu also owning an impressive 45-0 win at Long Beach Poly (Calif.), which has since beaten Los Alamitos (Calif.) 20-14 before a narrow 27-24 loss to Serra (Calif.) on Friday.
St. John Bosco (Calif.) is now No. 2 in the MaxPreps poll and No. 3 in USA Today. The Braves will travel to the islands this weekend to play Mililani on Saturday at John Kauinana Stadium.
Oahu schools are 8-0 against mainland teams this season and 11-0 against out-of-state competition including two wins over teams from Canada and another over a team from Samoa.
I think stl would smash UH. The way they (stl) are playing now.

They got to stop all these rankings of high school football teams. All it does is make win-at-all-costs football programs like St Lulu and Bishop Gorman recruit even more players. No rules, not standards exist in high school football regarding recruitment of players as it does in NCAA and NFL football. It’s the Wild West out there. no limits to recruiting at all.

People keep bashing St Louis and Punahou for recruiting. People don’t say anything about how heavy Mililani recruits players as well. Five of Mililani’s starters this season used to play for St Louis in the past but transfered to Mililani. The Iosefa brothers are from Waipahu. McKenzie Milton was from Kapolei. Vavae Malepeai was from Aiea. So much talent from Kalihi but how to they end up in Campbell or Kapolei? Everyone’s complaining about the corruption in the ILH, but never even mention what’s going on in the OIA. It’s a eat or be eaten time in Hawaii football. We should be proud that Hawaii football is getting the national recognition it deserves.
