After a 28-yard Kahuku punt is fair caught at the Kahuku 35, a personal foul is assessed on the Red Raiders. Ball at the 19. Four plays later, Navares knocks a 35-yard field goal through the uprights. MILILANI 29, KAHUKU 0, 9:14, Q4.

The third period ends with Mililani at the Kahuku 34-yard line. Agbayani is still in the game, but Sam has been relieved by Jasiah Alcover.

Kahuku picks up a first down on a pass from Adolpho to Zealand Matagi, but punts back to the Trojans with 3:06 left in the third.

After the delay, Mililani has the ball at the Kahuku 14. First play of the series, Agbayani tosses a pass to Sam in the flat, and he dives over the left pylon for a 14-yard TD. MILILANI 26, KAHUKU 0, 8:28, Q3.

OK, officials have ejected Kahuku’s No. 90 (TJ Seguritan), 75 (Micah Soliai-Howlett) and 2 personal fouls for the stuff at the end of the play. Personal fouls assessed, and now the ball is at the Kahuku 14-yard line. Head coach Sterling Carvalho is lobbying hard with the head official in the white hat and both teams are on their sidelines. But I really didn’t hear a whistle, and though that doesn’t excuse any extra rough play, why wasn’t there a whistle?

Red Raiders have an effective, quick-pass heavy drive to start the second half. Then Adolpho is sacked by Hoohuli, loses the ball and it is bouncing toward the Kahuku sideline when Mililani LB Mark Pasternak recovers. He’s on the ground, gets up, and is tackled by Kahuku. I think, not 100 percent sure, that there was no whistle blown on the play, and you know players are taught to play through the whistle. Both teams are in a pile-up, Kahuku coaches trying to break up the scrum. No harm done, and officials are conferencing near mid-field. Bad break for Kahuku, but Hoohuli is almost unblockable. He got through like a blur, and if they rule that Adolpho was down on the sack before the fumble, it would still be a long 25-30 yards for a first down.

It has been a defensive struggle and the stats reflect it. Mililani is just so efficient at getting playmakers in space. The Trojans have 8 rushing yards, including 18 on eight carries by last week’s ballcarrying monster, Malosi Sam. Kahuku’s defense isn’t playing badly. Brendyn Agbayani is having a stellar night, 8-for-15, 59 yards, one TD and no turnovers. But that’s just 67 yards of total offense, and the key is Mililani is content to control the ball, the clock and play chess with field position. Kahuku has 48 rushing yards and a combined 22 passing yards between Tiger Adolpho and Mana Fonoimoana-Vaomu. That’s 70 total yards, which is actually almost equal to Mililani. That Trojan TD on the fumble is HUGE.

Kahuku ball at its 20 with 1:01 left in the first half. 21-yard pass from Tiger Adolpho to Cole Pruett sparks the drive, and a personal foul by Mililani advances the ball to the Trojans’ 20. After an incomplete pass by Adolpho with :03 left, Adam Requilman attempts a 36-yard FG, but it lands short as the half ends.

Both teams do a quick warm-up on their respective sidelines. It’s been about 20 minutes since play stopped. Third and 5, Agbayani has Gibson open up the season, but underthrows the ball and it falls incomplete. Punt by Hoohuli bounces between the returners and is downed at the 20.

Ambulance is on the field and they have wheeled him on a stretcher into the vehicle. Alan Talanoa (#14) is a 5-11, 180-pound junior linebacker.

2:20 left in the first half when a Kahuku defensive player is injured after a run by Mililani. Player is down and not moving, trainers from both sides, and Kahuku coaches, are with him. They will be cautious and an ambulance is nearing the stadium.

Trojans get great field position, and five plays later, Kaulana Navares line-drives a 30-yard field goal over the crossbar. That’s two touchdowns, a safety and a field goal for the Trojans. Is this hitting for the cycle football style? MILILANI 19, KAHUKU 0, 4:57, Q2.

Kahuku goes to its goal-line package and goes three-and-out. Punt is a fair catch by Mililani at the Kahuku 35 with 6:31 left in the first half. Kahuku has 10 yards in total offense so far.

Trojan offense more methodical, stalls out at the Kahuku 40. Punt by Wynden Hoohuli is a beauty, a coffin-corner special that bounces out at the Kahuku 2.

The first quarter ends with Mililani in full control. All momentum is with the team in brown and gold right now. Kahuku has one first down in three possessions.

Trojans make their own break on punt coverage. Micah Kim forces a fumble, the ball bounces and gets kicked and ends up in the end zone, where Kiai Ramos recovers for Mililani. MILILANI 16, KAHUKU 0, 3:33, Q1.

Kanoa Gibson’s 41-yard return on the ensuing free kick sets up the Trojans at the Kahuku 30. They drive into the red zone, but a big personal foul penalty moves the ball back to the Kahuku 31. Then Brendyn Agbayani hangs in the pocket just long enough to get off a 31-yard touchdown strike to Mystik Sampaga on the post route. Trojans so explosive against a tough Red Raider defense. Trojans’ opening series: they punt after going three and out. Kahuku then goes backwards with losses of 6 and 3 yards. Then Mililani’s Sonny Semeatu sacks Mana Fonoimoana-Vaomu in the end zone for a safety. WOW. Crazy fast pass rush. MILILANI 2, KAHUKU 0, 8:24, Q1.

The coin toss is pau and Mililani wins, and will receive from the makai end zone (Meheula Parkway side). Conditions are cooler now, sun is down, light breeze. Temp is around 80 degrees compared to near 90 earlier.

Sunny, hot and slightly breezy before the JV game kickoff (5 p.m.) at John Kauinana Stadium. One of the best venues for football in the country.
