GAME NIGHT 8/9: Pac-Five/Kaimuki

Kaimuki 34, Pac-Five 12, FINAL

Third and goal, Maiava fires a bullet to Kaulana Kaluna for a 4-yard TD. Unsportsmanlike conduct whistle on Kaluna for his celebration after the score. It wasn’t a big celebration, but the yellow flag came flying in anyway. KAIMUKI 34, PAC-FIVE 12, 10:50, Q4.

Hedani’s first play after the on-side recovery is a bomb down the left side that is a half-step too far for Ian Canute. Two plays later, Hedani takes a shot to the solar plexus after launching a deep pass. He is forced out of the game.

After the TD, Ian Ishibashi recovers an on-side kick for the Wolfpack at the Kaimuki 40-yard line. Kaimuki had numbers up at the 50, not sure if it was their hands team, but they let it get away.

Pac-Five staying alive. Hedani rifles a bomb to Tam for a 29-yard TD. KAIMUKI 27, PAC-FIVE 12, :56, Q3.

Another connection from Maiava to Moananu as the sophomore QB reads single coverage perfectly for the easy lob down the left sideline. The 20-yard TD play gives the Bulldogs their largest lead of the game. KAIMUKI 27, PAC-FIVE 6, 2:10, Q3.

This time, it’s Hedani loosely carrying the ball under duress, and he fumbles in the backfield. Phillip “Cash” Phomphakdy recovers for Kaimuki at the Pac-Five 44-yard line.

THIRD QUARTER
After exchanging punts, Kaimuki gets on the board again on Maiava’s 5-yard fade pass into the end zone to Koby Moananu. KAIMUKI 20, PAC-FIVE 6, 5:32, Q3.

SECOND QUARTER
Kaimuki takes over late in the first half with the ball at its 29, and Maiava loses the football while drifting around the pocket with the ball extended in his right hand. Ball is batted away and recovered by the Bulldogs at their 24. I haven’t seen a QB hold the ball so casually in a long, long time.

A 62-yard bomb from Chase Hedani to Kaala Tam sets the Wolfpack up at the Kaimuki 3-yard line. Three plays later, Bryson Ho fumbled near the goal line and Laitin Bradley recovered in the end zone. Kaimuki partially blocked the PAT try. KAIMUKI 13, PAC-FIVE 6, 1:46.

Naomas Asuega-Fualaau rumbles off left tackle and down the sideline for a 49-yard TD run. The PAT kick was blocked by Kaleb Rowland. KAIMUKI 13, PAC-FIVE 0.

The Bulldogs went ahead on a 4-yard TD run by QB Jayden Maiava late early in the second quarter. Otherwise, it’s been mostly an even defensive battle. KAIMUKI 7, PAC-FIVE 0, 10:57, Q2.

Paul, you got some of the blog wrong. The set up, the 62 yard pass, for PAC-five first TD was not to Kaala Tam it was to Ian Canute.
