HILO, Hawaii >> Brian Derby is nationally recognized as one of the premier offensive line gurus, but he will never say no to coaches in the islands.
When Kaeo Drummondo, coach of the BIIF champion Hilo Vikings, asked Derby to conduct a camp, Derby didn’t hesitate. Big Island offensive linemen, from elementary school to high school, got a taste of Derby’s teachings on on a muggy, hot Sunday at Panaewa Park. Among the coaches joining Derby was Samson Kela, the former Hawaii O-lineman now assisting at Hilo High.
