There is nothing concrete yet in Carter Kamana’s future.
But it’s beginning to crystallize bit by bit. The 6-foot-3, 180-pound junior has been contacted by a number of Mountain West Conference football programs. On Tuesday, a Pac-12 Conference recruiter came calling on the ‘Iolani campus.
Kamana, who had 85 receptions for 959 yards and eight TDs last season, was busy in class and didn’t meet with the coach. There are plans to connect later, however.
“I don’t have any offers. Just some interest from some people,” he said. “But it feels pretty good. Kind of like, I was out of it during volleyball season, but now that it’s over, it’s pretty cool.”
Kamana was also a key contributor to ‘Iolani’s basketball and volleyball teams.
“Football’s the main one. Volleyball and basketball are just for fun,” he added.
Kamana will stay busy when the school year concludes shortly.
“I’m planning on going up in June to some camps in California. Fresno State, San Jose State. There’s one in Sacramento. One at UC Davis,” he said.
In between all the sports and practices, the workouts and heavy load of academics, Kamana and returning Raiders quarterback Jonah Chong have improved their own connection.
“It’ll be a solid year for him, his second year, getting stronger. I’ve been working with him a lot, running my routes,” Kamana said.
Chong passed for 2,162 yards and 21 TDs last fall.

ILH, what do you mean by that? That the Kamana ohana offered him up to the Puns, for a price, but that they balked, and then the Iolani Red Raiders stepped up to the plate and offered him major financial aid? Is that what you are implying? He got to be the keiki of one “Carter Kamana”,
who played for Kamehameha late 1970s and then at Michigan St in the Big Ten. Uncle John Kamana starred at Punahou in football, basketball and the 200m run in Track and Field. Started as a freshman on Punahou’s Varsity basketball team. Was on the same high school basketball team as the popolo President Barry O’Bama.
St Louis and all their recruiting has decimated Hawaii state high school football.

MG- He was at Punahou and left for whatever reason. He has grown into a beast at Iolani. His older brothers graduated from Punahou and are also great young men. Its unfortunate he left but its great that he is making his own path.
MG – He Went to Iolani, went to Punahou to Redshirt, went back to Iolani for whatever reason. I’m glad he’s doing well. His oldest brother was the most successful at Punahou compared to the middle one. Best of luck to his senior campaign.
