Leilehua’s boys still rule the West.
The defending state champion Mules, who swept through everything possible last season, defended their OIA West title on Saturday in Pearl City.
Leilehua scored 155 points to nip Kapolei (152) and Campbell (150.5).
Dylan Ramos began Leilehua’s title haul by pinning Kinau Mcbrayer of Kapolei in the 113-pound final and was followed by titles from Kaena Desantos and Naikoa Simao.
Peter Natividad (120) and Pookela De Santos (152) contributed second-place finishes.
DeSantos controlled Elijah Diamond of Mililani through the 138-pound final before sticking him and Simao added another valuable pin when he stopped Campbell’s Adam Perez.
Kapolei actually had more OIA West champs than Leilehua, dominating the upper weights with Branden Pagurayan winning easily at 152, Vance Kelihoomalu getting it done at 182, Tao Tuulima surviving a war with Pearl City’s Aidan Fernandes at 195 and Rafael Leapaga pinning Radford’s Jeramiah Gabrillo at 285.
Austin Morris was Campbell’s only titleist, beating Radford’s Pontus Thiravong 6-3 at 220 pounds.
Aiea collected two titles, from Weiyi Zheng at 126 pounds and Dante Bareng at 132. Bareng was handed his title when defending champion Brock Gooman was injured in a semifinal victory over Logan Leialoha of Radford. It is the first time Na Alii had multiple finalists since 2010.
Other OIA West championships went to Nicholas Cordeiro of Waianae (106), Josiah Tamasaka of Pearl City (120), Nathan Miller repping Mililani at 160 and Taylor Daack getting it done for Radford at 170.
