Interscholastic League of Honolulu members Punahou and Mid-Pacific square off in the title game of the 20th Annual James Alegre Invitational.

Jakob Kimura and Ryder Hsiung score 12 points each as the Buffanblu capture the Alegre title.

Lucca Kitashima led MPI with 10 points.

Owls got the lead down to 11 and no closer. Punahou’s reserves holding their own.

Punahou opened the second half with an alley-pop dunk by Kimura, but MPI responded with treys by Lucca Kitashima and Colin Ramos, cutting the margin to 11. Punahou’s Tamatoa Falatea then splashed a wing 3. Kala Nakaya’s reverse layup cut the lead to 15.

MPI reserves have plugged the dam, cutting a 22-point lead to 15. The starters were crisp on days one and two, but were a step slower tonight. Punahou coach Darren Matsuda continues to use his entire roster of 15 players. Huge performances off the bench.

Punahou kept the pace fast with a 12-2 run to begin the second quarter, opening the lead to 30-8. Jakob Kimura and Hsiung sparked the run with quick 3-pointers.

The Owls missed their first six shots, and another three attempts at the foul line. Punahou got a boost off the bench with a layup bun Ryder Hsiung and a corner 3 from Drake Watanabe shortly before the buzzer.

Kalaheo 67, Radford 49, third place
Ryan Pardini scored 19 points and Kanoa Smith tallied 16 for the Mustangs.

Sophomore Dimonyai Lacey led Radford with 13 points and classmate Emmanuel Stevenson chipped in 10.

Moanalua 75, Leilehua 51, fifth place
Geremy Robinson led Na Menehune with 19 points and DeAeris McRaven added 16.

Logan Lasell paced the Mules with 13 points.


Lahainaluna 47, Honokaa 28, seventh place
Hunter Higdin scored 12 points and Reece Pascua tallied 10 to lead the Lunas.

Isaac Jardine’s 10 points led the Dragons.
