MIL champion Lahainaluna and KIF champion Kapaa were awarded the top two Division II seeds in the First Hawaiian Bank/HHSAA State Football Championships.
The top-seeded Lunas (9-0), who are the defending D-II state champions, and second-seeded Warriors (6-2) get a bye in the first round and host a game in the second round.
Two first-round games will be held on Saturday, Nov. 10 — Pac-Five (4-4) at fourth-seeded OIA champion Roosevelt (10-2), and Kaimuki (8-3) at third-seeded BIIF champion Kamehameha-Hawaii.
On Saturday, Nov. 17, Lahainaluna and Kapaa swing into action at home. The Lunas play the Roosevelt vs. Pac-Five winner, and the Warriors play the Kaimuki vs. Kamehameha-Hawaii winner at Vidinha Stadium.
The championship game is Saturday, Nov. 24, at 1:30 p.m. at Aloha Stadium.
A year ago, Lahainaluna outlasted Konawaena 75-69 in seven overtimes in the finale.

Can someone explain how seeding works? I donʻt understand how a team who plays the same 2 teams 3 times during the regular season (for a total of 4 different teams) and finishes 6-2 gets seeded higher, and the first round bye, than a team who ended 10-2 and played 12 different teams? Is there a formula or pass precedence or a coin flip?
In a state tournament, no team should get a BYE or free pass. League playoffs, that’s fine but not state championships! It’s a huge unfair advantage based on subjective rankings. HHSAA justifies 1st round BYE format as “Cost” in include 2 more teams to increase from 6 to 8 teams, baloney! The object is to determine FAIRLY, the state champion! NOT to make money off of high school athletics. The OIA also and more so, always publicly says their decisions are based on making money. High school athletics is about “Participation in Interscholastic competition” not making money. If gate receipts, TV revenue is not generating enough monies as they would like it to, the State needs to kick in monies to make it a go. It is part of the educational process for students! NOT making monies! this not one business! Thats what the public school always says when they are compared to private schools, that they educate all and not only the select target group. KS Hawaii with their intentional forfeit to Hilo should be ranked last. Don’t reward nonsense, everyone else played the whole scheduled season games and had to deal with injuries. Kona played their last two games against Hilo and Kealakehe, while KSH was practicing and getting their kids all healed up for the Championship game.
The REAL Koa is in the Open division and it’s staying in Kalaepohaku.

Reason why they made it that way is cause Oahu teams are much better than the neighbor island schools.also the refs know last year they messed up and favorite n rigged konawaena to win Waipahu last year in states just hope it don’t happen again.
