Moanalua defensive tackle Tupu Alualu has parlayed a fantastic senior season into a spot in the 2019 Polynesian Bowl.
The 6-foot-2, 310-pound senior was named a Polynesian Bowl All Star today after leading Na Menehune to an undefeated regular season and the No. 1 seed in the OIA playoffs entering Saturday’s game against Castle.
Moanalua has the best defense in the OIA in D-I, allowing 12.9 points per game. Over their last six games, Na Menehune is allowing just 6.8 points per contest and hasn’t allowed more than 13 points.
Alualu is the younger brother of current Pittsburgh Steelers defense end Tyson Alualu, who was the No. 10 overall pick in the 2010 NFL Draft by the Jacksonville Jaguars.
He is the first Na Menehune selected to the Polynesian Bowl in 2019. Moanalua had three players — WR Ryan Ramones, QB Alaka’i Yuen and DB Isaiah Jackson — selected to the 2017 game.
The 2019 Polynesian Bowl will take place on Saturday, Jan. 19, at Aloha Stadium.
